These sessions of Chess Club are specially designed for kids who are just beginning to play chess. We will start the first week with the very basics like how to set up a board and how pieces move. We have a new giant chess mat is large enough for kids to pretend to be the different pieces. As we progress, kids will work on strategy as they test their wits against other players in games. The library will recruit older chess players to act as mentors and assist in gameplay. Chess Club will meet for three consecutive sessions so that participants can observe their skills improving with practice. Recommended for kids in kindergarten and up.
