April is Michigan Wine Month and here at Plum Market we love to promote local greatness. The wine industry within our shores has grown way past the days when pioneers Bernie Rink (Boskydel) and Ed O’Keefe (Chateau Grand Traverse) began experimenting with Vitis Vinifera on the Leelanau Peninsula. Now there are over 125 wineries in Michigan! Our soil and weather can be perfect for varieties like Riesling, Pinot Blanc and Pinot Gris – we’re located close to the 45 degree latitude, magical for French and German winemakers. Red varieties are also creating a buzz—Cabernet Franc has been a stalwart, alongside lovely Pinot Noir and surprising Blaufrankisch. You can look forward to fresh releases from Chateau Fontaine, Shady Lane, Bowers Harbor, Chateau Grand Traverse, Left Foot Charley, Big Little and much more. Let’s drink local together!
