Ruben Östlund’s Palme d’Or-winning and OSCAR-nominated surreal art-world satire sees a respected and refined curator fall apart in his quest for revenge.
Christian (Claes Bang) is the respected curator of a contemporary art museum in Stockholm. Wanting his gallery to make a splash, he arrives at the idea of ‘The Square’, an installation inviting passersby into a space where they are encouraged to behave responsibly. But before this can happen Christian has his own sense of civic duty tested when his phone is stolen.
With superb support from Elisabeth Moss and Dominic West, Ruben Östlund has created an audacious and outrageously provocative film, while honing his eye for the subtlety and contradictions of human behaviour from his earlier work (Force Majeure).
