Featuring Kate Beever!
Maine Academy of Modern Music is thrilled to launch the second season of "The Kids Are Alright", a family-friendly local music series aimed at encouraging children’s involvement in the musical arts. This series will take place, in partnership with the Sam L. Cohen Children’s Library on the first Saturday of the month (aside from September 9th), September through December at 10:30am in the Portland Public Library’s Rines Auditorium. The event is free and open to the public thanks to partial funding from the Davis Family Foundation.
In addition to live performances by some of the area’s top talent, each event will feature a “Get-To-Know-Your-Local-Musician” component that will allow parents and children a chance to ask the performer(s) questions about what it is like to be a musician in Maine. Likewise, MAMM will host an “Instrument Petting Zoo” so that everyone will have a chance to try out some of the instruments that they will have seen used on stage during the performance that day.
Kate Beever is a board-certified music therapist who works with people with cancer, brain injury, and developmental delays. She performs regularly as a percussionist and travels throughout Maine giving presentations on the field of music therapy; and partners with healthcare and arts organizations. Kate also loves animals, archery, and the French language.
Song by song, Maine Academy of Modern Music (MAMM) aspires to provide Maine youth with the discipline, freedom, and guidance to appreciate the thrill of making contemporary music, instilling in them the power of self-expression. MAMM is dedicated to building leadership through the musical arts.
