Learn to create a simple, traditionally fermented sodas like root beer and ginger ale using probiotic starter cultures and real roots, spices and barks.
This workshop begins with a LECTURE on the history, nutritive value and simple technique of lacto-fermenting beverages with a ginger bug culture or whey (a by-product from cheesemaking) culture. We will TASTE a medley of sample brews. We will DEMONSTRATE brewing a big pot of root beer and ferment it with whey. Students will get HANDS-ON and make their own ginger bug culture. Students will TAKE HOME both a bottle of class-brewed root beer and their ginger bug starter culture to ferment sodas at home.
