Bizet’s ever-popular opera is given a fresh point of view with director Barrie Kosky’s far-from-traditional and highly physical production. By incorporating music written for the score but not usually heard, Kosky gives a new voice to the fiercely independent Carmen. The young soldier Don José intends to marry Micaëla, a girl from his home village. But when he meets the sensual gypsy Carmen, he sacrifices everything to be with her. With Jakub Hruša conducting soprano Anna Goryachova in the title role.
