Join us for the opening reception of There is no audience: tax form paintings and other abstractions by artist Carl Smith. This show will only be up for one weekend, so mark your calendars with these dates:
Artist Talk: Thursday, April 12th at 7 pm
Opening Reception: Friday, April 13th 6pm to 9pm
General Gallery Hours: Saturday, April 14th 11am to 4pm
Our Creativity Room will be open and stocked with blank tax forms. Come paint, draw, cut, erase, glue and/or write what you wish you could file!
Carl writes, “Tax forms are absolutely becoming a thing of the past. I will miss them. Like a painting, they have the potential to tell a story, to communicate events and even ideas through financial information. They are also a math problem calculating the amount of taxes you owe. But you have to fill in the blanks to make it work; you have to project your history between the lines, just like any good piece of art.”
