Bierfabrik meets Protokoll! There will be five of Bierfabrik's finest beers on five of Protokoll's finest taps on thursday the 12th starting at 18:00. Also Sebastian, one of the owners of Bierfabrik, will be on hand to hang out, drink beers, and generally be chillin'. You should come chill with us. Here's what will be on offer on tap:
This Cognac Porter is matured on a bed of Oak wood chips (Cognac, medium roasted). It is lagered here until its aroma profile is completely unfolded. It pours a strong amber colour with a fine-pored foam. The well bound aromas of wood are immediately present and flow over to smoother nuances of Melon and Papaya. The latter being reached through the usage of the Hops variety Equinox. From the first sip to the last it tastes predominantly malty. This is accompanied by a discreet resinous flavour, that harmonizes well with a slight bitterness and a mild sourness.
The Malt Liquor is a strong Lager, whose taste is half-way between a tart Pilsner and a sweet dark beer. It gets its amber to orange-brown colouring through the usage of Caramel malts. The body of this Lager is dominantly malty, without being too overbearing. Through the usage of malts cured over beechwood, a smokey flavour is aquired that enters towards the beginning of the aftertaste and extends right through the whole tasting experience. Typical for this beer style, is its high alcohol content, which is reached through the usage of molasses. Instead of using the, for Amercia typical, cornsyrup we have decided to keep it local with a sugar beet syrup.
Maple Walnut Stout
The maple walnut stout is brewed - as the name hints - with Maple Syrup. After fermentation it is then lagered on home-roasted Walnuts. It pores a deep black colour with a fine-pored, cappuccino-coloured foam. In its aroma it is intensely coffee and chocolate like. On the pallett it unfolds from a mighty malt sweetness, from the maple syrup, into a honey and dominantly nutty aroma, that harmonizes with a light bitterness and leaves you with a well balanced note of espresso.
The "Schluckspecht" is a Pilsner, which is - like all other beers brewed by the Bierfabrik - unfiltered. It is light yellow in colour and is charackterized by an intense hops profile. The main hops used is the Aroma Hops Hallertau Mittelfrüh, whose subtile floral aromas already unfold in the Nose. The taste is tart with a very clear Citrus note, which leads into a lightly herb-like taste, without loosing the classic Pilsner characteristics.
This creation was inspired by the beautiful poem "An den Schluckspecht" by Mikael Vogel, appearing in Verlagshaus J. Frank. The poem, as well as the illustration by Petrus Akkordeon, adorn the label of this beer.
The "Helles" is a goldish yellow, malty lager. It is very crispy from the first sip on. Very subtile floral aroms unfold in the nose. Later it gets slightly sweetish due to its strong malt body. Hoppyness, bitterness and sourness stay in the background during the whole drinking experience. Therefor the Helles has a appreaciably high drinkability - so: take six (at least)!
Hope to see you there!
