Road is a play written by Jim Cartwright, set in a working-class area at the time Margret Thatcher was in government, which was a high time of unemployment in the North of England. The play is said to be enormously effective in showing the desperation of the lives of those who lived in that time period, however contains a lot of humour which comes from the characters in an attempt to keep their spirits up.
The Year 12 Performing Arts Class have been working on this production of ‘Road’ since November 2017, for their BTEC Qualification. They have looked at the styles of practitioners and are producing ‘Road’ in an ‘Epic Theatre’ style, from practitioner Bertolt Brecht.
