You probably know the feeling of drumbeats and rhythms that can lighten your mood, make your body dance and fill your mind with joy and presence? In this special drum workshop we invite you to explore for your self, how playing drums and percussion affects your body and mind in a positive way.

Drumming has such magic to it with its very physical grounding touch of loud sounds and its beating high vibrations. It has at all times united people and awakened creative power, life force and joy. When playing drums in a group, most people experience stepping into a childlike state of mind, with no worries, just music, joy and presence with body and mind. Drumming is so powerful; it calls us back to a primal force we so easily forget in our domesticated society.

In this two-days workshop we use mindfulness techniques, drumming and percussion to evoke our more natural way to be in life, as we take a break from daily stress and obligations. The professional drummer and percussionist Gijs Anders Van Straalen from Holland and Yoga & Meditation teacher Ditte Brændgaard from Copenhagen will safely guide you into the world of drums and the side affects of aliveness, creativity and awareness.

On a practical level, Gijs will lead us into group drumming, step by step setting up grooves from some of the world’s greatest rhythms. Ditte will inspire us to listen deeper from within our own body, by guiding us through meditations and easy body movement for more stillness of body and mind. This is opening up the senses and the present moment, from where we are in a perfect condition to explore a magical field of creation.

Whether you are new to drumming and percussion or have many beats, rhythms, slabs and strikes behind you, we have something for you to chew on.

You are more than welcome to bring your own drum, if you have one, whether you can drum it or not, or borrow one of the many drums we will bring to the workshop.

The workshop will be held in easy English.

We offer a two days workshop – you can attend one day only or both for a deeper experience.

There will be tea, coffee and a small snack.

How did we get here together?
Ditte and Gijs met back in 2015 in an ashram in France, in the odd combination of a silent retreat and Gijs teaching a percussion workshop. In 2016 Ditte invited Gijs to come and do a workshop in Copenhagen for the first time. “We were pretty sure we had experienced something extraordinary in the combination of drumming and silence, that most people are not aware of. This is the third time we host this workshop and we keep dicking into the layers of combining more of what we both do so well and we are exited to share this with you.”
