National Home Funeral Alliance 2013 Annual Conference
The National Home Funeral Alliance is pleased to announce their annual conference, October 18-20, 2013 in Raleigh, North Carolina. The NHFA, along with other natural death care organizations in the US and abroad, is dedicated to educating the public about death care options, including home funeral and green burial.
Did you know that caring for your own dead at home is legal in all 50 states? Families who have done so are eager to share the benefits and the beauty of this last act of caring for their loved one.
This year's conference is entitled "Home Funeral in Community: Restoring the Lost Art" and takes place at the DoubleTree by Hilton - Brownstone - University in downtown Raleigh, North Carolina.
The keynote speaker is well-known author, lecturer and home funeral advocate and educator Nancy Jewel Poer, who will talk about the gifts to community and family of having a home funeral. She will also introduce the showing of her 2010 film "The Most Excellent Dying of Theodore Jack Heckelman," which chronicles the last days and conscientious dying at home of her brother.
Other speakers include Dr. Monica Williams-Murphy, ER physician and author of "It's OK to Die," and Freddie Johnson, Director of the Prairie Creek Conservation Cemetery in Gainesville, Florida.
This conference includes education about the basics of how to carry out a home funeral with death midwives Jerrigrace Lyons and Olivia Bareham, and a trip to a local Green Cemetery (Pine Forest Memorial Gardens).
The National Home Funeral Alliance provides information and tools for the public to talk about their wishes with family, friends and healthcare providers, and to plan ahead for their own death and funeral care in accordance with North Carolina state laws.
