Community Supper with Maggie
Wednesday, May 15th at 5:00p.m.
We are so excited! Our mission work in Zambia has been such a blessing – to the villagers in Kaoma and to us. And now, you will have a chance to meet a wonderful lady from Kaoma and here about our work there.
The Readfield United Methodist Church will host a community supper at our church on May 16th at 5:00 p.m. and Maggie Pele Wamunyima will be there, to meet us and to speak. Maggie is in the United States to attend the Harvard African Development Conference.
Maggie is the daughter of Margaret Mundia Muyatwa, the founder of a women’s center in Zambia who inspired us to start WISE (Women’s Initiatives that Strengthen and Empower), a nonprofit that supports and empowers economic independence for vulnerable women in the Western province of Zambia, Africa.
RUMC was been supporting WISE since it started. In fact, RUMC supplied the sewing machine that Lynn Twitchell took to Margaret Mundia in 2002 which was the impetus of the start of the women’s club in Kaoma, Zambia.
Maggie now is the project coordinator for WISE in Zambia. She oversees WISE’s scholarship program and serves as treasurer of the Kaoma WISE Trust Board. Please join us to welcome Maggie to Maine, and to learn more about the projects in Kaoma, Zambia. Exciting! We will have baskets available for sale also.
