Join us and donate blood (or get a friend to) at the Blood Bus on the Reitz Lawn near the Hub and get a FREE t-shirt from 10AM to 5PM.
This blood drive hosted by Pride Awareness Month centers around the current FDA blood ban against MSM donors. According to the FDA, men who have sex with men must abstain from any sexual contact for a year to be eligible to donate blood. This ban was mainly put in place due to the high rate of HIV infection in this community, leaving many members of the LGBT community unable to donate blood. Our goal is to raise awareness about the inequalities behind the ban and how there are much more reliable ways for the FDA to ensure donated blood is up to standard.
Later on at 6pm, we will be in the Pugh Hall Ocora (296 Buckman Drive) for FREE oral HIV testing courtesy of GatorWell Health Promotion Services. We will have sexual wellness resources from GatorWell, STRIVE, Planned Parenthood, AMSA Gender and Sexualities Committee, and WellFlorida.
