The Fun Foundations Class: the crossroads where sensory play + books + songs + dancing + speech, language, behavior and feeding support meet! Taught by a certified speech-language pathologist. The kiddos have a blast and the mamas, papas, nannies and grandparents get supported!
Pre-registration required at https://www.high5communicationresources.com/class-registration1.html
This 8-Week Series for approximately 12-30 months and their caregivers will run every Friday, 10:30-11:30, from April 20-June 8!
The Fun Foundations curriculum was developed by certified speech-language pathologist, Emily Goudreault, who teaches the class utilizing a whole language approach, which employs both sides of the brain: the left side of the brain, which is activated to process grammar, vocabulary and meaning, and the right side of the brain, which processes emotion and voice melody.
Throughout the class, songs and movement reinforce grammatical patterns and emotion, use of hands-on sensory experiences engage children and support language concepts, sign language acts as a visual aid to symbolize vocabulary, and books introduce early literacy skills. These are all vital factors when teaching children language and early literacy skills. The class also offers your child the opportunity to connect and engage with peers and other adults, and you the opportunity to engage with fellow parents.
In addition to offering fun and educational learning opportunities for children that can be duplicated at home, caregivers will also learn research-based strategies for supporting their child’s speech, language, feeding, positive discipline or literacy development.
Each 60-minute class offers the following activities based around a fun weekly theme that highlights an important language concept or basic noun/adjective (examples: up/down, in/out, beaches, body parts, lizards, etc.), while we:
• sing songs
• read a book
• move our bodies with a gross motor activity
• practice language concepts with manipulatives and toys
• sensory exploration with a variety of hands-on
• introduce babies to sign language (utilizing American Sign Language) with 1-3 signs per week
• children engage with peers
• parents chat with other parents
• learn strategies to support speech, language, feeding, positive discipline or literacy development
Cost: $125 for 8-week class. Includes class attendance for 1 child and 1-2 adults. $60 for an additional child age 3 years or under
