Art Lovers’ Film Night brings film, art and live storytelling together, resulting in an entertaining and edifying night out at the cinema. At every edition we present an advance screening of a new film about art, architecture or design, with an introduction by a curator or other expert on the film’s topic. Tickets include a glass of wine and goodie bag. Art Lovers’ Film is a partnership between Auckland Art Gallery Membership and Rialto Cinemas.
The third Art Lovers' Film is a special festival screening of SAMURAI ARCHITECT: TADAO ANDO. This documentary follows 72-year-old Japanese architect and Pritzker Prize winner who is known for his refined and minimalistic designs.
The filmmakers travel with Ando over the course of a year, across the globe, to explore his understated creations, all of them zen-like triumphs in concrete. Join us on a tour of some of his most iconic designs such as The Row House, The Church of Light, Benetton's Fabrica and the Chichu Art Museum on the island of Naoshima.
If you book an Auckland Art Gallery Members ticket, please be ready to present your Membership card to staff at Rialto Cinemas on the night.
