On Sunday, April 15th Kelly Todd, from LSS: Refugee Resettlement, will present on the work being done to welcome refugees to Milwaukee. Topics covered will include:

•The overseas registration process and how refugees arrive in Milwaukee
•Which ethnic groups are resettling in Milwaukee and why
•The role of non-profit refugee resettlement social service agencies
•How you can volunteer with and advocate for refugees locally and nationally

This event is free but Night School will be collecting donations of disposable diapers (all child sizes) for LSS clients.

Kelly Todd has been a Case Manager at Lutheran Social Services: Refugee Resettlement for five years. In her current role as Health Liaison, she coordinates medical care for newly arrived refugees. She recently earned her Masters of Social Work—with a concentration in Community and Organizational Leadership—from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Kelly is involved in numerous social justice and community educational projects, including Opioid Overdose Prevention Training for Bartenders and the monthly series Sex Ed for Adults.

Night School, developed for the Riverwest Public House Cooperative in 2011, is a series of conversations relevant to Milwaukee and beyond. Night School is an environment for critical dialogue, presentations, films, and more in a social space. We aim to bridge the gap between academics and activism through the speakers we invite and to foster community engagement and activism. Night School is always free and open to the public (21+). Paul Kjelland, Tea Krulos, and Kelly Todd are currently co-curating Night School programming. If you have suggestions for future Night School subjects or guest presenters, please email us at events@riverwestpublichouse.org.
