Join NPS Park Rangers from the Civil War Defenses of Washington (CWDW) and Rock Creek Park to commemorate Earth Day.

The program will be a joint history and nature hike through Rock Creek Park. A ranger from the CWDW will guide visitors to see the Defenses of Washington, detailing the evolution of fortifications. Along the hiking route, a Rock Creek Park ranger will detail the natural landscape of the area, including tree, plant, and bird identification.

The program will begin at the Rock Creek Park Nature and Planetarium at 11:00 am. The program will be conducted at a moderate pace and elevation grades, and over cleared ground (both dirt and paved). Parts of the tour will go off trail into the woods. Dress accordingly to the weather with appropriate footwear. And bring water!
