Free & Open to the Public. All levels of experience are welcome. Those who are new to a movement program or who are seeking to regain past abilities are especially encouraged to attend. This series is appropriate for adults and young adults.
We’ll be using a carpeted space; we’ll make full use of chairs; students should wear loose comfortable clothing or gym wear.
Classes will begin with balance exercises, simple steps, and will end with relaxation.
Balance is the foundation of safe movement. With it, we gain the confidence to sustain our movement and allow the muscle groups to both contract and stretch. Stamina is our ultimate goal; with it we steadily increase our capacity to strengthen the heart, our circulation and our muscle tone.
Dancer/choreographer Patti Luchetti has studied classical, modern and ethnic dance styles for 30+ and is director of Shalimar's Studio of Oriental Dance in Rockland. In Maine, her teachers have included Mary Blum, Arthur Hall, Jimena Lasansky and instructors associated with the Belfast Dance Studio and People to People Dance Center in Camden. As well she has enjoyed following a multitude of stars and instructors who ply the Oriental Dance (bellydance) seminar circuit.
She says, "In the study of ethnic and folk dance, one is exposed also to the music and culture that underlies the movement - it is a rich, rewarding endeavor. Currently, I am interested in the study of yoga and Chinese movement as a way to age with confidence, grace and safety."
