Billy Shinbone is the deviant folk-pop-skiffle manglings & disco-punk-rock-blues of Somerset. Multi-instrumentalist Billy Shinbone, -funnelling his twin passions of old country & 60s psychedelia through the rusty plumbing of a DIY musical approach & his love of a twisty lyric. It all began when he spent time touring in the USA with arty psychedelic popsters Flipron & found himself falling in love with the old country & Cajun music he was hearing in the bars of Tennessee & Texas. "I wanted to be in a world where a fancy suit wearing, electric sitar playing, poetry reading, cocktail drinking aesthete like me could happily exist pouring himself into the Cajun rhythms & stomping hillbilly hollers that would be naturally suspicious of anyone not dressed in denim & plaid. That world didn't really exist so I had to invent it for myself. A world where Jeckyll & Hyde can hang out together & have fun. And anyone is welcome to come & spend some time here. Music is the potion."
Billy has toured Germany four times, played at Glastonbury Festival in 2014 & 2015 & released a debut single "If You Think You'll Get Away With It You're Wrong" in 2016. It was warmly received with plays on BBC6 Music from Steve Lamacq & Tom Robinson, as well as airplay in the USA, Canada, Australia, Ireland & Sweden, as well as local & specialist shows. The album is now recorded & mixed & due for release in the spring.
What shall we call it? Psychedelic skiffle? Deviant fuzz-folk-disco? Blues-punk? Bubblegum hillbilly? Well that choice is up to you.
You can catch him playing guitar with the Neville Staple Band, up & down the country, here & there. Yup, that's Neville from the Specials & Fun Boy Three - playing ska, reggae & classic two-tone sounds.
Right now, The Billy Shinbone Show has finished mixing the debut album! We've had real fun making this record- taking pianos apart, building big piles of amps, digging out Dobros & electric sitars, cheap glockenspiels & cheap accordions, borrowing beautiful expensive mandolins & baritone guitars, making percussion from old motorcycle sprockets & just hitting stuff to see what kind of noise it made. It'll be coming out in the spring on Tiny Dog Records!
Steve Henderson is a singer songwriter out of Glastonbury, who in recent years, has performed numerous shows throughout the South West of England and has supported Gaz Brookfield, Nick Parker and even the Grateful Dead. Silver Bitch, his debut EP, is a stripped back, mostly guitar and voice exploration of themes around longing, separation, insomnia, love and belonging. The lyrics weave stories within stories as each song introduces you to characters playing out situations we found ourselves in each day, from a first date to that person that makes a night come alive out of nowhere.
