In this hands-on 2-day master class you will learn all the tricks of the trade to apply a life cast mould to the face, as well as sit for a mould yourself. You’ll also cover the various products available, the health and safety aspects of life casting plus discuss the various mould application techniques, casting materials, and finishing techniques.
Day 1: During the first day you’ll be paired up to apply your life cast moulds in silicone. You’ll then learn how to apply the backing mould in plaster bandage. You and your partner will take turns to prepare the moulds and then all participants will come together to discuss the various casting techniques and materials available. To finish, you’ll cast your faces in plaster of Paris as well as casting some sample pieces to test your patinas on.
Day 2: On day two, participants will open their cured castings for inspection and use the time to clean up any problem areas and patch any bubbles using the tools supplied.
You’ll then discuss finishing techniques and applications before using your sample plates to test the various combinations of bases and patinas with a choice of 3 different finishes and patinas to apply. At the completion of the workshop you’ll have completed a face casting with a professional metal-look patina of your choice
