Guest Artist - Patrick A. Scott
Patrick A. Scott is Assistant Organist-Choirmaster at the Episcopal Cathedral of Saint Philip in Atlanta, Georgia where he plays for services and evensongs, accompanies the Cathedral Choir and Schola and leads a chorister program under the standards of the Royal School of Church Music. A native of Picayune, Mississippi, he holds degrees from Birmingham-Southern College and the University of Texas at Austin where his teachers were Dr. James Cook and Drs. Judith and Gerre Hancock; he formerly studied organ with Betty Polk and Kathy Vail. Dr. Scott is quickly becoming recognized as one of the nation’s prominent young organists.
He was recently named as one of the top 20 leaders and organists under the age of 30 by The Diapason magazine and won the first prize and the audience prize at the American Guild of Organists National Competition in Organ Improvisation in 2014. He has recorded CDs under the Raven and Gothic labels with the cathedral choirs of St. Philip and as soloist on the Æolean-Skinner organ of Providence United Methodist Church in Charlotte, NC, the organ formerly at the Kennedy Center in Washington DC. Dr. Scott has presented recitals, workshops, hymn festivals, and masterclasses for chapters and conventions of the American Guild of Organists, the Organ Historical Society, and the Royal School of Church Music.
