Put on your dancing shoes and join us when the Sacramento Jazz Cooperative proudly presents the David Hardiman San Francisco All Star Big Band as they celebrate their 43rd Anniversary concert with “Love You Madly” tribute to Duke Ellington.
The San Francisco All-Star Big Band was formed in September of 1975 under the auspices of the San Francisco Art Commission’s Neighborhood Arts Program. The intent of this project was to allow for the continuing development of writing and playing abilities of members of the local professional jazz community. Members of the band include a mixture of seasoned veteran jazz musicians and younger developing talents. Since its inception, the band has gained a wide San Francisco Bay Area following, performing at a number of festivals, colleges, universities, private parties, dances, churches, benefits, night clubs and shows.
The nineteen-piece professionals, under the leadership of Ft. David Hardiman, have performed, recorded, traveled, and associated with such notables as “DUKE” ELLINGTON, TONY BENNETT, “DIZZY” GILLESPIE, EARL “FATHA” HINES, RAY CHARLES, FREDDIE HUBBARD, “SUN-RA”, etc. The unique song styles of featured vocalist, “SWEETIE” MITCHELL, MARY STALLINGS (formerly with “COUNT” BASIE), DENISE PERRIER, and NINA CAUSEY are reminiscent of ELLA FITZGERALD, BILLIE HOLIDAY, DINAH WASHINGTON, and NANCY WILSON. DAVID HARDIMAN, JR. sings songs from MICHAEL JACKSON, COOL AND THE GANG, AND LIONEL RICHIE. Collectively members of the band have performed all over the world..
