Kids and families can get as creative and elaborate as they're inspired to with costumes OR, if that's just one more thing on the to-do list, the whole family can just dress in their student's class color and still get points for dressing up! The colors will create a visual effect of connectedness between grades (all Kinders are red, 1st are orange, etc.) and an overall rainbow will be created by K-5 on the dance floor together!
When families arrive, parent volunteers will use a scoring system with points going to each child's grade on a big chart (maybe 5pts. per family [*family = 1 parent and a child, or the whole family plus grandparents, auts/uncles, etc.], 5pts. if students are dressed up, and 5 more points if the whole family is dressed up). The idea behind the friendly competition is to get kids excited and promote lots of participation from each grade, so ultimately, there are lots of families coming to socialize! Plus it'll feel kind of like a Hogwarts House competition, which will build class connectivity and pride!
Pizza will be provided. An excellent playlist with the kid's favorite pop music, an occasional fun, cheesy song (hokey pokey, limbo, conga), maybe a square dance or two, and of course some key songs from the 80's and 90's to help all the parents let loose and have fun too! Teachers are excited and planning to come and Ms. Bu is helping each grade make banners in their class color to decorate with!
