What is true love? This first comic collaboration between lyricist WS Gilbert and composer Arthur Sullivan seeks to answer that question.
On the wedding day of Alexis Pointdextre and Aline Sangazure, a mysteriously wacky sorcerer, John Wellington Wells, interrupts the festivities, offering magic and spells. Alexis, ever the romantic, wishes that everyone could experience love in the same way he does. He thus asks the sorcerer to create a love potion, which is slipped into the wedding tea for all in attendance to partake. However, when the potion takes effect, mismatched lovers are arranged and true love may never be found!
