April 14th is Songkran, a Thai New Year! In honor of this holiday, we wanted to create a menu that is inspired by our recent trip home to Thailand. The progression of the meal resembles our experience when we got lost in neighborhoods and allowed food stalls to tempt us. We will start with sweet & savory snacks--as you would find as early as six in the morning in markets. Then we progress into a beloved Thai green curry "kaeng kiew wan"--a favorite in my family. We end with tropical and local seasonal fruits wrapped in bags with bamboo sticks just like a Thai fruit stand. We will also have a couple of surprises along the way, not listed on the menu!
We can accommodate vegetarian for this menu. Please let us know when you make a reservation:)
Mieng kham เมี่ยงคำ: leafy greens, toasted coconut, lime, ginger, garlic, bird’s eye chili, peanuts, tamarind caramel
Saku sai moo สาคูไส้หมู: tapioca dumpling, peanuts, ground pork, preserved turnip
Khao niew sakaya ข้าวเหนียวสังขยา: sticky rice, egg custard
Kaeng kiew wan แกงเขียวหวานไก่: organic chicken simmer in housemade green curry, makrut lime, coconut milk, pickled bamboo, apple eggplant, vermicelli noodles
Pon la mai ผลไม้หลากหลาย: market fruit, salty sugar dip
HANLOH ฮัลโหล was founded in 2017 by Lalita Kaewsawang in Santa Cruz, California. “Hanloh!” is a common greeting when Thai folks pick up the phone, reminding any emigrant – wherever they are – of home. Lalita moved to the US from Thailand when she was 13. In high school, she worked at local Thai restaurants and in college, she started an informal pop-up in her dorm room! Since graduating from college, Lalita has developed her culinary education through City Year, Edible Schoolyard, Waimea Farm, and Dinner Lab. Most recently, she cooked at three-Michelin-starred Manresa.
