The Loft Movie Theatre is proud to present a screening of Nicolas Roeg's 1976 cult classic:

★ The Man Who Fell to Earth ★

In Haneyville, New Mexico, hotel maid Mary-Lou (Candy Clark) meets an intriguing foreign traveller (David Bowie in his first - and perhaps most befitting - starring role), who claims to be visiting from England. She is drawn to his fragility and tries to help him acclimatise to his surroundings by introducing him to her way of life. But while Mary-Lou knows her new love interest is different, she doesn't realise that he is actually an alien of an altogether different nature.

Thomas Jerome Newton is an extraterrestrial who has come to Earth on a desperate mission to find water, leaving his wife and children behind on a dying planet. He plans to use his superior intellect to patent inventions as-yet unknown to man, so he can afford to develop a space craft that can transport water (and himself) back home.

But, as his relationship with Mary Lou progresses, Newton becomes corrupted by man-made diversions such as alcohol and television. And when his true identity threatens to be revealed, and the government closes in, the reality of returning to his family seems further and further away.

Directed by Nicolas Roeg in 1976, and capitalising on the other-worldly persona Bowie had cultivated in the first half of the 1970s, this Science Fiction cult classic delivers a surreal sense of alienation which film critic Kim Newman rightly refers to as ‘consistently disorientating and beguilingly beautiful.’

The Man Who Fell to Earth has been stunningly restored and will be presented in 4k.
