Book your place on our 5-day FarmSkills Lameness training course, 23-27 April 2018.

This course will be taught by Carolyn Baguley from Scarsdale Vets and Alex Burrows. Teaching will be practical and within a small group.

Why Book Your Place on the FarmSkills Course?
The aim of the course is to give a thorough, holistic approach to lameness prevention.

Increasingly with farm assurance, you are expected to prove your training and expertise. With FarmSkills, you will receive a certificate of completion at the end of the week.

What Will The Course Cover?
Day 1 will begin and end at our practice on Markeaton Lane. The on-farm sessions on days 2 to 5 will be held at Coton Hall Farm, Coton-in-the-Clay, Ashbourne, Derbyshire, DE6 5GY.

Day 1 – Introduction to Cattle Mobility and Functional Foot Trimming
Monday 23rd April, 10am-3pm (morning session at our Markeaton practice, afternoon session on farm)

An introduction to cattle mobility, functional foot trimming and lameness, including a mobility scoring session on farm, focusing on early detection of lameness.

Day 2 – Practical Functional Foot Trimming – The Basics
Tuesday 24th April, 10am-3pm (on farm)

An introduction to causes of lameness and how to prevent them in the morning, and foot trimming using the Dutch method in the afternoon. Real feet (abattoir specimens) will be used to give a sound grounding in the fundamentals of foot trimming.

Day 3 – Practical Curative Foot Trimming – Lameness Lesions
Wednesday 25th April, 10am-3pm (on farm)

Recognising, trimming and treating different types of lameness, again using real feet.

Day 4 – Practical Curative Foot Trimming – Lame Cows
Thursday 26th April, 10am-3pm (on farm)

Trimming and treating different types of lameness, this time using live cows.

Day 5 – Lameness Prevention
Friday 27th April, 10am-3pm (on farm)

More trimming of live cows, and a discussion on how to control lameness in your herd by identifying risk factors and implementing practical solutions. Protect your herd – prevention is better than cure.

How Much Does The Course Cost?
The 5 day course is £550+VAT per person and includes lunch each day.
