SDSU student, Max Lofano will be on-site with his experimental and interactive piece Scratch and talk about his work in the exhibition. Visitors will have the opportunity to carve unpredictable patterns onto prepared surfaces, with the option to take a small piece home.
While working I often start with found materials and move forward from there. By using found objects I get to participate in my world and make decisions about it. I never restrict my self to any material or form. I follow the notion of the piece, whether it be a material relationship or unexpected result, always leaving the next step open making decisions as they come. I believe that an experimental process is essential to new discovery. The material language of the work must not be restricted to preconceived limitations. Decision making within the process is the foundation of my work, and inquiry and discovery are the goals of my exploration.
