The volunteer recruitment day is a three hour session where you get shown how the centre works, from rescue to release, the opportunities that are available and get to experience the regular duties first hand. You will be lead through a hands on process of cleaning out Hedgehog enclosures and a tour of the site along with explanations of the various volunteer roles available.
The rate of animal casualties admitted to Secret World varies greatly throughout the year. In order to cope with the increase in demand expected throughout the Spring and Summer, recruitment of regular voluntary support is key to our success.
The site is agricultural and the direct animal care work requires a certain level of physical ability. There are less physical opportunities, such as booking in casualties on arrival, dealing with enquires and coordinating rescues, which are just as vital and interesting. People are supported at the outset with training. The aim is for people to be able to work independently, to be able to support the other members of the animal care team as casualty numbers rise.
You can find more in depth descriptions of the opportunities at Secret World on the volunteer pages. https://www.secretworld.org/volunteer/
Minimum age to volunteer is 16.
