Sociologist and Iliff School of Theology professor Dr. Antony Alumkal will discuss his recent book, "Paranoid Science: The Christian Right’s War on Reality" (NYU Press). The book details how Christian Right leaders create paranoid conspiracy theories to attack science when scientific theories or practices threaten their religious beliefs. In the process, they create their own alternative reality.
Case study chapters examine intelligent design creationism, the “ex-gay” movement (conversion therapy), efforts to restrict biotechnology, and religiously-based climate change denial.
One Christian Right leader called Paranoid Science “a really wretched book.” Come find out what got him so upset.
