World Bank Malaysia and Securities Commission Malaysia will be jointly organizing the International Conference on Islamic Finance. The focus of the Conference will be on the topic of 'Harnessing Islamic Finance for a Green Future '. This one and a half-day event will be attended by development practitioners, policy makers, regulators, as well as representatives of financial institutions.

With the objective of fostering the growth of Islamic finance, the forum will deliberate on the potential of Islamic finance to support climate mitigation and adaptation efforts, including the use of Islamic finance instruments to finance climate friendly projects. It will explore policy, regulatory and institutional elements required for the sustainable use of Islamic finance to address climate change. There will be particular focus on the recent use of "Green Sukuk" to finance projects in Malaysia and the possible replication of these instruments in other developing and emerging markets. The conference will, among others, discuss the key issues, challenges and opportunities to be considered in mobilizing Islamic finance for green development. The Conference targets to attract approximately 200 high-level development practitioners, policy makers, regulators, as well as representatives of financial institutions.
