Spring Break on the Farm!
Day Programs at Seed Song Farm & Center
The Spring Break on the Farm Program allows participants of all ages to experience the farm and surrounding creek and woodlands through active, creative, fun and engaging activities. The program nurtures an understanding of and deep reverence for our land and the food that it provides. Staff and participants work and learn together, as an extended farm family does, to accomplish basic daily farm tasks such as feeding the chickens, planting seeds,
building structures, and cooking and eating together. Surrounding these activities, we will explore and celebrate the wondrous nature around us, learn some of the the sustainable ways of the areas first inhabitants, and process our experiences through fun games and the arts.

Explore the magic within a seed! Start seeds; Collect the seeds of wild and cultivated plants; seed art, music, and games. Harvest food that has over-wintered underground, discover signs of the wild animals that have been nibbling on them. Prepare the soil for planting season and add special ingredients that help the
plants grow. Older participants will help with more advanced seasonal farm tasks such as plant trellises and crop blankets, and learn the science involved in farming.

Paddle a canoe, make a drum or rattle, help build a wicwam and a fire pit, search for signs of wild animals, cook a snack using indigenous crops, hear a story around the fire, join in
traditional drumming and song.

Monday, April 2: Maple Sugaring and Farm Cooking
Walk in the woods to learn to identify and tap sugar maple trees; collect the sap in pails; collect branches to make a fire in the evaporator, then boil the sap into maple syrup. What other food comes from the forest on this agroecological farm? Build an outdoor stove. Make your own brick oven pizza. Share the food
we've made during the past week.

NOTE: Day Themes may be mixed or swapped based on weather and enrollment. Groups
feature multiple ages, each group's activities are age-appropriate. In cases of low
enrollment for an age group, participants will enjoy more 1:1 time with staff and
