We're excited to launch our 6th season of Operation Firefly sponsored by AARP in Los Angeles! Operation Firefly, our bike light distribution and education program, aims to make sure that people who ride at night are riding with bike lights so that they can see and be seen. As it gets darker earlier, remember that when riding at night in California, a white front light and reflectors are required by law (CVC21201). More importantly, riding without lights and reflectors is dangerous.
Last season we handed out lights to 3,000 people county wide and this winter we'll be upping our goal to 3,500. Operation Firefly runs until we "spring ahead" in March and wouldn't be possible without a large core of volunteers who help distribute these lights. If you want to help with Team Firefly, please sign up for updates here.
Operation Firefly will officially launch in Van Nuys on Tuesday, November 7 from 5 PM - 7 PM with LA City Councilmember Nury Martinez! Need lights? Stop by with your bike!
