w/ Special Guest Instructor - Susan Casey, Author
("Kids Inventing! A Handbook for Young Inventors" & "Women Invent!: Two Centuries of Discoveries That Have Shaped Our World")
In this hands-on program, teens will see photos and videos of young inventors who have won national contests and sold their products to major companies. They will brainstorm ideas for household and other inventions, learn how to identify a trademark and read a patent (and if computers are available to do a patent search). Teens will judge an invention contest (via video) and do a hands-on activity either drawing ideas for inventions or using construction paper and tape in which they create a model of an invention idea then see patents gained by others for similar ideas. They will leave with information about national invention competitions and programs open to them. Teens leave saying, "Hey, I could be an inventor, too."
