Skating is an awesome family-friendly activity that helps build strength, balance, confidence, coordination and agility and can be learned at any age! All ages and abilities are welcome to join us to learn to skate or learn a new trick or even to skate backwards.
This is a great opportunity for someone who has struggled to learn to skate in the past or used to fly around the rink twenty or thirty (or fifty!) years ago and hasn't skated since. We can get you rolling in a quiet, controlled and safe environment.
The more you learn, the more fun it is so let me know what you would like to be able to do and I'll teach you!
Admission is $10 per skater and includes skate rental and the skate session immediately after that runs from 1-4:00. Enjoy excellent pizza and make new friends while you're here!
A little bit about me – I have been a serious skater since 1967 where I found artistic skating at age 12 and I have literally never stopped! I skated figures and dance competitively until around the mid-1980's and then just kind of session skated with my kids. In 1990, we discovered speed skating and spent the next 20 years competing in speed at the national level. I have participated at speed skating clinics at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs several times including as a coach. I still race outdoor races as a member of Team New England all summer including the Eastern Seaboard Series, Connecticut Outdoor Challenge and the NYC Skate Marathon and 100K. In 2010, I discovered roller derby and while not a player, I regularly coach many leagues around NYS and am a “honorary” member of the Mid-Hudson Misfits from Accord, NY. My roller derby name is Psycho Sylvia! I teach skating at Interskate 88, Skate Estate in Vestal and Skaters World NY in Ferndale, NY. I am a Level 1 Skate Instructor's Association instructor, a member of SRSTA – Society of Roller Skating Teachers of America, SCA – Speed Coach Association and a coach with US Roller Speed Skating. WHEW!! And I love to skate!! --- Sylvia
