Get down and dirty as you ride, run and haul your bike around a special course under lights on the infield of the old Chandler Velodrome.

Cyclocross racing involves laps of a short course featuring terrain such as pavement, grass, and obstacles that require the riders to dismount and carry their bikes. This sport began as winter training in muddy northern Europe, but now it’s popular around the world as a fun and social type of bike racing.

In Brisbane, the first cyclocross race in recent times was at Davies Park during Bike Week in 2009. Since then a regular cyclocross scene has sprung up, and these days Bike Week CX is the season opener, a fun way to get into the sport of cyclocross.

Entrants will need a Cycling Australia or MTBA racing license. If you do not have a racing licence, you can purchase a day licence on the day (Adults $20 & Juniors $5), or get the once-only free two-month trial licence from MTBA.

There will be different categories on the day so be sure to enter your correct category. These include:

Two junior races: up to under 11s, and then under 13 & under 15 race together. (NB: if you are 14 years old on January 1, 2018, you are under 15 all year).
A & B Grade, men and women (for cyclocross bikes)
C grade / open for men and women (any bike!)
Plus fun events like a relay, prizes for the best costume or fancy dress, plus random prizes simply for showing up and taking part!
