Terry Trahan Returns for a Full Weekend of Workshops!

Saturday 10 am - 1pm Cover and Avoidance in Silat
We will explore the initial responses from Silat jurus, and isolate these positions in light of the Golden Move concept as taught by Rory Miller. We will explore Silats unique initial responses and footwork within the concept of: increasing your safety; Worsening your opponents position; and providing a means to either escape or being in a better position to deal with the fight.

3 - 6 pm Follow ups and Counter-assault in Silat
Silat is a unique martial art from Indonesia. It encompasses the full range of combat, with unique strikes and evasive maneuvers. What really sets it apart, however, is it rapid counter-assault that immediately allow strikes and takedowns from a variety of positions. We will explore entries and set ups in order to employ these unique tools.

Sunday 10 am - 1 pm Use of and Defense against Blunt Weapons
Concentrating mostly on the single stick as taught in Filipino Martial Arts, we will explore the use and defense against, of blunt weapons. After a familiarization, we will concentrate on avoiding attack, securing the weapon and countering.

2 - 5 pm Close Quarters Knife Concepts
We will delve into the simplified use of the knife as a weapon for self defense, concentrating on the forward drive and aggression needed to survive a knife attack. We will concentrate on reverse grip and thrusting, and learn some last ditch defenses against another threatening you with a knife.

Having spent many years dealing with violence, various subcultures, and street life gives Terry a unique view on life and the dynamics of violence. Due to his strong interest in efficient answers to violence, de-escalation, urban survival, and escape, Terry’s focus is more on the civilian end of dealing with violence, covering armed, unarmed, improvised weapons, threat assessment, awareness, and unconventional strategies. Terry has years of training in SouthEast Asian Martial Arts, heads the Kapatiran Suntukan Martial Arts organization, and is the lead instructor for WeaselCraft his non-traditional approach to personal security, and specializes in all aspects of knives, from use, to design and function.
