This training is for yoga teachers, Counselors, Social Workers (12 CEU's) and educators who use yoga and meditation as an intervention. Learn how to transform the lives of trauma survivors through the healing practice of yoga. This 12 hour training explores different types of trauma, how it manifests in the mind and body, tools necessary to create a safe and supportive space as well as a clear framework for applying yoga through a trauma informed lens. This weekend training will meet 3 times (Friday 630-930pm | Saturday 1-5:30 | Sunday 9-3pm) and will include lecture, discussion, sample trauma informed classes, practice applying and more. Topics included are: The impact of trauma & the intersection of yoga methodology and applications of trauma informed yoga. Neurobiology and effects of trauma. Breath, mindfulness and trauma. Creating trauma informed sequences & theming. Creating culturally sensitive healing spaces & supporting students/clients. Triggers, language, touch and trauma informed savasana. Self care. Ethics & boundaries. Sol Yoga feels this emerging topic is extremely relevant to our modern lives as ‘trauma’ and suffering are experienced not only in extreme cases, but often by the average person. Our first job is to tend to the needs of our students/clients and meet people ‘where they are.’ But what happens when those needs can't be seen or easily communicated? This training will raise your awareness and offer a first step toward leading special trauma informed groups too. To lead this timely and sensitive topic, we are bringing together two highly qualified teachers. Shelley Pentony is a Trauma Certified Yoga Teacher and a national expert in the field of domestic violence and sexual assault. She has spent the past 16 years providing direct services & advocacy to survivors of trauma. Alicia Barmon, Psychotherapist and Yoga Therapist uses Somatic Experiencing and mindfulness practices to support her clients through developmental and shock trauma. Together, they will present this 12 hour comprehensive training. Limited Space. Please pre-register. $239, $199 for members (SYTA or Sol)
