This year the Park District has established a new Community Stewardship program at the South Shore Nature Sanctuary, located next to the South Shore Cultural Center Beach.
Everyone is invited to come out 10 am - 12 pm on the third Saturday of every month April - October to help maintain the Sanctuary, learn about ecology, and meet other community members interested in natural area stewardship. Activities will include picking up trash, pulling weeds, planting native species, repairing the council rings, and mulching trees. No experience is required, all ages and ability levels are welcome. This is a great opportunity to meet neighbors and spend time in South Shore's beautiful and unique lakefront nature sanctuary.
Meet behind the cultural center, at the entrance to the sanctuary (near the Beach House). Volunteers should bring a water bottle and weather–appropriate clothing, and must sign a waiver upon arrival. Tools and gloves will be provided. For more information contact Jerry Levy at (312) 832-1616 (day), or (773) 955-6384 (evening).
