About the workshop....
Pranayama is the bridge from the physical aspects of Yoga such as Asana to the inward practices of Pratyahara (sense withdrawl) and meditation, posture work prepares the body and mind cultivating a sense of ease and quietness over time so that sitting without movement can be achieved.
Pranayama is the expansion of energy in the body via the breath and is a powerful but very subtle practice, however practicing the classical techniques without preparation can become tedious quite quickly so the aim of it is never appreciated. If the Lungs and mind are developed at a deeper level first through basic but effective techniques over a period of time then it becomes much easier and enjoyable.
This varied workshop will act as a precursor the sessions later in the year with Philip Xerri and will cover the foundations and developmental areas of Philips teachings from the ‘five phases of practice’ including:
1. Postures which focus on the hips so that sitting for longer periods becomes easier and establishing a comfortable ‘seat’.
2. Breath practices and techniques for development of effective breathing and increasing Lung capacity.
3. Simple Asana’s which focus on various sections of the Lungs so a fuller appreciation of the breath can be felt.
There will be a short break during the workshop and it is open to those with some previous experience.
