Join us for a Star Party at Spirit Mound Saturday, April 21, 2018 beginning at 8:30 p.m. Once the light fades, the party kicks off with a tour of the night sky followed by looking at constellations, planet and galaxy viewing through several telescopes, the moon, and meteors from the Lyrid meteor shower. The evening program will be led by Daniel Peterson, Park Ranger with the National Park Service’s Missouri National Recreational River along with volunteers and staff from University of South Dakota and South Dakota Game Fish and Parks.
No need to make reservations, just show up! Please dress extremely warm as the open sky and prairie of Spirit Mound will get cold. Star gazing is a sedentary activity and so dressing warmly is highly recommended.
Participants interested in this program should meet in the parking lot at Spirit Mound located off of Hwy 19 North of Vermillion, South Dakota. The free program is open to all ages; children under 10 years old must be accompanied by an adult. Participants are asked to dress for the weather. The program may be canceled due to inclement weather. The program may end around 10:00 p.m. For additional information please call 605-665-0209.
