Workshop lead by Spread Art Artist in Residence Chelsea Unzner who calls this kind of theater work ‘rehearsal for real life.’

Statistically, 50% of the time a bystander intervenes in an oppressive situation, the immediate problem is solved.
As part of bystander awareness training, Chelsea will read off true stories of people put in oppressive situations. She will have groups of three participants act out the story, giving each of them roles: the oppressed, the oppressor, and the bystander.
Through such exercises, Chelsea will provide opportunities through theatre to practice tactics that can diffuse different situations as a bystander and grow better awareness of social power dynamics.
