This summer is the summer you finally make time to write.
Looking at writers who do it well, we’ll explore heat and light in a series of prompts to get you writing. These will not be the tender beginnings of spring – on this course you’ll write drafts hot and bright enough to see you through next winter.
What will we do on the course?
We’ll read and discuss extracts from novels, essays and poems that capture the heat and light of summer – from Deborah Levy to Federico García Lorca, from Jean Rhys to Mimi Khalvati. Inspired by these brilliant texts we’ll scrutinise that summer lust, interrogate nostalgia and get to the heart of what summer really is to you. You’ll produce the the beginnings of three new pieces and lots of new ideas. You’ll receive feedback on your work and give feedback to others. Most of all, this is a course to get you excited about writing and to provide you with enough material to keep you going through summer and beyond.
Who is the course for?
Writers at any stage, writing prose or poetry, who feel that they would like to read and write new things. Those who maybe haven’t made time for their writing, or those who feel they’ve lost that spark. This is a course to generate new work so no experience is necessary.
