The UIS Human Development Counseling Social Justice class will host an open mic night/art expression for anyone who would like to share their story regarding mental health. We will have donated art on display and available for purchase, as well as a silent auction. In order to make this event memorable, each person who pays the door cost for the event will be given a tile to decorate in any way they choose. Some may choose to get artistic and some may choose to share their story on the tile rather than the mic. In the end, all of the tiles will then come together and be placed somewhere within the UIS Human Development Counseling facility.
This event will provide a place for people to share their stories, express themselves through art, become empowered to fight the stigma of mental illness and gain educational information. All of the proceeds will be donated to the local branch of the National Alliance on Mental Illness.
