The Springfield Free Public Library will host a performance by the bluegrass band “Blue Plate Special” at 2 PM on Sunday, May 6, in the library’s Donald B. Palmer Museum.

Mixing bluegrass with gospel and Americana, the band’s songs range from the hopeless (“You Can Never Go Home Again”) to the uplifting (“Hallelujah Glory”), to a woman scorned (“Nothin”) and a man who hits bottom (“Midnight Train”). The band is made up of vocalist Jay Friedman, vocalist and mandolin player David Gross, bassist Tom Wise, banjoist Dan Whitener, and guitarist James Hempfling.
