Stories of encounters with extraterrestrial beings have a special ability to intrigue and unsettle us. From science-fiction to real life reports of abductions and UFO sightings, the concept of aliens haunts our collective imagination. In this session, we will discuss the meaning of this modern mythology, putting contemporary concepts about aliens in the context of extraordinary experiences humans have reported throughout history. While some believe that earth is being literally visited by beings from outer space and others dismiss that idea as delusion, considering the spiritual aspects of the UFO phenomenon may point in a different and stranger direction, one that has much to teach us about the nature of humanity itself. Part of "As Within, So Without," an ongoing series on spiritual philosophy at Square Bean Carlisle, hosted by Thomas Millary (MA in theology, Drew University).
