An exploration of the wisdom for everyday life found in the American philosophical tradition. By emphasizing nature and experience, American thinkers have produced many insights that combine accessibility with philosophical depth. In this session, we will look at Ralph Waldo Emerson, William James, and other great American writers, taking inspiration from their lives as well as their ideas. Come learn and discuss how the approach to truth and meaning found in the American philosophies of transcendentalism and pragmatism can shape the way you experience the world. Part of "As Within, So Without," an ongoing series on spiritual philosophy at Square Bean Carlisle, hosted by Thomas Millary (MA in theology, Drew University).
