St. John Ambulance offers the unique opportunity to directly impact the lives of the people we serve. Uniformed members of St. John Ambulance provide first aid to those injured and ill at public events in Ottawa.

As you can imagine, our volunteers need to be dedicated and well trained in order to perform their duties. St. John Ambulance does not offer a one-off volunteer opportunity. We provide training, support, and the chance to do some really great things at some really cool events, for free!

Requirements to be a volunteer with St. John Ambulance:
- 16 years of age or older.
- A valid St. John Ambulance Standard First Aid with CPR-C qualification, or equivalent. (You must have this before you attend the Welcome Session)
- No Criminal Record (we provide a letter to get this done free-of-charge with the Ottawa Police)
- Be physically and mentally capable to perform the tasks required of the position

What we expect from our volunteers
- 60 hours of community service (duty time) per year. (You of course may do more than 60 hours)
- Attend the majority of the 2-hour weekly unit meetings where you will practice your skills and learn new ones. (Monday or Tuesday evening from 7-9pm)

What do volunteers get in return?
- Free Medical First Responder training, including recertification as long as you are a member of St. John Ambulance
- Free annual CPR Recertification
- The opportunity to attend sporting events, concerts, and other events in the city for free
- An honours and awards program to recognise your achievements, including the potential for admission in the Order of St. John
- The chance to make a direct impact on the lives of other people
