Please join us at Saint Marks at 44 2nd Street in Newport at 7 PM for our Celtic Evensong or come early and partake of a light supper of soup and bread between 6 to 6:30 PM before the service. This month's theme is "sojurn."
Celtic evensong is a quiet and meditative service featuring music, readings and reflections with a focus on Celtic spirituality. Since the time of Saint Patrick, Brendan and Columbus, Celtic spiritual living has been grounded in the wonder and sacredness of all Creation. This service is a celebration of ordinariness and an earthed humanity. The Celts believed that nothing was secular because everything was sacred. Nothing is outside of God’s love and grace. This service is intended to bring a glimpse of that sense of Creation to those attending.
Our candlelit service will feature live harp, flute and piano music all keeping with Celtic traditions. The celebrant will be the Reverend Bob Wilson of Saint Marks. Heather Webster (flute), Chris Nicotera (harp) and Martha Peck are our collaborating musicians. In maintaining the reverence for all of God’s world the service will be largely silent meditation on short biblical readings and a simple reflection on the theme of journey, or sojurn. The service is completely ecumenical and all are welcome that seek to find time and place to rest in God’s care through music and quiet. For any questions contact the church at 802 334-7365.
