In 1996, seven French Trappist monks from the monastery of Tibhirine in Algeria were kidnapped and killed. The film, Of Gods and Men, which takes its title from Psalm 82:6-7, tells the story of the harmony that existed between the monks and the Muslim villagers, the arrival of terrorists who threatened their lives, and the difficult decision the monks faced of whether or not to leave the people they loved and served.
On Good Friday, you are invited to watch this film in the Memorial Room at St. Paul’s. The film is 2 hours long and is in French with English subtitles. There will be a brief introduction before watching the movie and a prayer at the conclusion, but no discussion. Instead, we will allow space for silence and inner reflection as we move into Holy Saturday. Please RSVP to this Facebook event if you wish to attend so we know how many chairs are needed.
